Buyacarehome in discussion with Paul Nery Founder at Rose Care Group talking about the AI technology evolution in the care sector

By listening to the challenges faced by care staff Carey-AI was born:

Carey-AI the inspiration:

  • Within Rose Care Group, we were observing rising patient complexity, putting a strain not just on the time for care staff to support residents, but also increasing the knowledge burden, as they had to be aware of ever more complex situations.
  • This was affecting morale and making compliance harder to maintain, while managing costs.

What is Carey-AI?

  • Carey is a care AI that plugs into your care planning software via your browser. She then exists as a chat bubble that can take instructions from you like how you might type into Google or send a text, only this time, you’re sending your messages to the care planning software. So now, if you want an audit of a care plan, just say “Carey, please audit Jane Smith’s care plan”, and you’ll get back a report covering all the issues in that care plan in moments.
  • Major use cases include: Suggesting care plan updates by reviewing the last month of daily logs, handover files, incidents etc, in minutes; Auditing of care plans; Conducting daily monitoring of adverse trends such as falls, fluids, turns and compiling incident reports for managers.
  • We launched her to the wider care market in August 2024 and have had an amazing response since then, with pilots running at several notable care groups.

How is Carey-AI evolving?

  • The evolution of Carey has been amazing. She’s gone from being a tool that just supports basic questions of your care planning software like “whose birthday is next?” to doing complex reporting, “show me all incidents in the last 30 days and suggest ways to reduce incidents for each resident”. She is now starting to identify trends in the resident care records and suggest items for shift handover.

How is Carey-AI empowering care teams?

  • The most obvious thing is time. Carey is a huge time-saver, since you can just ask her to do analysis for you that would have taken hours.
  • But she’s also brought benefits around staff morale and confidence. They now have an AI they can ask for help on the ‘tough stuff’. So if they need suggestions to rephrase an ABC log so it comes across well, or if they want ideas for a resident activity, they can ask Carey. It gives the front-line staff more confidence in what they’re doing.
  • Overall, it’s also boosted compliance, with customers often realising issues within their portfolios they didn’t even know were going on, since, at the press of a button, Carey can tell them if any tasks were not completed.

What does your Team think about Carey-AI?

  • Carers, Managers and Group personnel love the time saving and having a source of support in complex case handling and the undeniable benefits to compliance.
  • Compliance levels typically reach 95% in care plans, after using Carey and she typically brings a 50% reduction in time to update or audit care plans
  • I think the benefit Directors and care providers and such are seeing is that they can be certain not just that tasks are being done, but they’re being done well and, if they want to change processes, they can just alter what Carey expects. She’ll then flag up and guide all staff to learn the new process

Future evolution

  • We want to continue to evolve Carey-Ai capabilities in care planning software. We have so many ideas and it’s incredibly exciting to keep adding to her repertoire. Within our customer-base we have a group of ‘affiliate’ care companies like Avante Care and Support, Stonehaven and WeCare that have joined us early in our journey and help us to come up with new ideas for Carey.
  • Next month we will talk in more detail about the outcomes of our pilot so far.
