Mac Research and Consultancy Limited
Specialists in residential and nursing care homes, helping providers set up, register, run and improve their services

Company Profile: Mac Research and Consultancy Limited
MAC Research and Consultancy is a UK consultancy that helps health and social care providers set up, register, run and improve services that are safe, compliant and focused on people. We work with services regulated by the Care Inspectorate in Scotland and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England. Residential and nursing care homes are at the heart of our work, and we also support care at home, housing support, supported living and turnaround services.
- SCOTLAND Services regulated by the Care Inspectorate
- ENGLAND Services regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
- SERVICE TYPES Residential and nursing care homes (our largest market) Also care at home, housing support, supported living and turnaround services
We help providers at every stage of a service’s life. That includes registering a new service with the Care Inspectorate or the CQC, carrying out due diligence before an acquisition, and stepping in as interim registered manager. When a service is under pressure, we provide hands-on operational oversight to stabilise it.
All our work is shaped around each regulator’s standards and frameworks: the Health and Social Care Standards and Care Inspectorate quality frameworks in Scotland, and the CQC’s fundamental standards and assessment framework in England. It is also written for how each service actually runs, not taken from generic templates.

Our services
Everything we provide is bespoke to your service: how it runs, its values and its ethos. We take time to understand your service before we start, so every document, review and recommendation fits the way you work. Nothing is taken from a generic template.
- Registration support for new care services, whether residential, nursing or community based, with the Care Inspectorate or the CQC. We prepare everything you need to register, including the statement of aims and objectives or statement of purpose and the policies and procedures the regulator asks for. A fully operating care home needs a wider policy suite tailored to its service type (quote available post registration)
- Due diligence for buyers, investors and commissioners of care homes and other Care Inspectorate and CQC regulated services, assessing regulatory history, compliance, governance, staffing and risks before acquisition or contract award
- Interim registered manager cover for care homes and other Care Inspectorate and CQC regulated services, providing experienced leadership during vacancies, transitions or periods of change
- Operational oversight, giving providers independent assurance on quality, safety, governance and performance against Care Inspectorate and CQC expectations
- Service stabilisation for services facing Care Inspectorate or CQC concerns, requirements or enforcement, leadership gaps or falling quality, with clear improvement plans and hands-on support
- Policies and procedures, statements of aims and objectives and statements of purpose, meeting Care Inspectorate and CQC requirements
- Quality assurance, self-evaluation and inspection readiness for Care Inspectorate and CQC inspections
- Staff induction programmes, training materials and workbooks, including Promoting Excellence dementia training for care home teams
- Research and service development
